Demolition of the Nanticoke Hydro Plant
The Nanticoke Coal Generating Station has been a landmark of the Oneida skyline for over 40 years, but between 2018 and 2019, there have been two demolition events that is clearing out the old plant and ushering in a new-era of a 200,000 solar panel farm.
Main Building Demolition :: Aug 22, 2019
Campers at our Sr. High camp had a front-row view of the powerhouse being demolished in less than a minute. This was definitely a first-of-a-kind event for campers to experience.
Smokestack Demolition :: Feb. 28, 2018
Over 100 people witnessed the event down at Camp Oneida, with many new-to-Oneida visitors coming to the Dining Hall for some coffee/tea, treats (from our own cook, Linda) and some warmth and use of our washrooms.
We are grateful for the volunteers who helped make this day a success, and a great outreach event. Thanks to everyone who came out!
